In my human bio class today a male's Adams Apple came up, and this one douchebag who knows I'm transgender mentioned that looking for the adams apple helps him decipher whose "really a girl or not". So I'm curious, T will make mine more noticable over time right? how big? photos if you have any would be nice thankss ^.^ oh and other results from T [which i really dont know anything about]

Everything is based on genetics my man...just because it happens for one guy doesn't mean it will happen for another. Every guy experiences the effects of T differently. For me I lost a good amount of body fat in general making my Adam's apple a lot more prominent, but it didn't necessarily increase in size. Sorry if this doesn't set your hopes too high but you definitely could luck out!

After a few months on T I noticed that my neck seemed to thicken and that my adams apple definitely  became more noticable. As for other changes, the most noticable ones I've had are my weight redistributing, my voice has dropped quite significantly, and my hair has kind of thinned out and is more "male patterened".

Like the other guys have said though, not everyone reacts to T the same way.

Good luck!

I've always had a very noticealbe adam's apple, but I did realize it becoming more prominent the deeper my voice got. I've been on T a little over a year now, so I'm pretty sure it isn't getting any bigger now, which is good! I have noticed a lot of bio guys though whose adam's apple's aren't noticeable so don't let it bother you to much. Plus once you're on T you will pass just fine, nobody will think twice about you having or not having a noticeable adam's apple.

its just something i've never paid much attention to, so when I heard that some people use to to tell apart male from female I got really concerned. I look really androgynous, but I'm still really young so I pass a good 80% of the time....but kids in school can be really hard to deal with. Havent put much thought on starting T, i know i will be on it eventually, but right now im focusing on generally passing and finding a gender therapist. baby steps!

Thanks a lot man! and baby steps are definitely the way to go, especially being so young! don't let that kid get to you. Like you said he knows that you're trans so he was probably saying that just to get to you. It's sad to say, but people can be pretty messed up and they do things just to upset others. keep your head up bro! everything will work out for you! and trust me, if you look at guys in your school I bet there are a lot who don't have very noticeable adam's apples. good luck with everything man!

The physician who's going to prescribe me T says that adam's apples are formed during male puberty because of the thickening of the vocal cords - something puts pressure on that part of your neck as your voice deepens. So testosterone should give you an adam's apple. I've had a bit of an adam's apple for a long time, it's actually fairly prominent and I think it helps me pass. But I also know several guys who don't have noticeable adam's apples, so if you're otherwise passing well it shouldn't make much of a difference.

Everyone pretty much answered it perfect. My uncle told me the same thing. He's a gay male who has the attitude of "he knows all in the glbt community". He also often makes comments that no trans man can be a real man. However people like Jet, Kyril, and many of the other guys, who's names escape me right now because I haven't slept yet, have proved him wrong.

Things I didn't see mentioned. Your junk will grow, your sweat scent will most likely change, sometimes your hair will get coarser. Look up trans guys on youtube and watch the vids. Many of them list changes and things such as the voice you can actually hear and see.

I hate to bring bad news, but at 16, you're probably not going to get any taller unless you start T immediately, just based on statistics.  On the up side, 4'11" is short enough that it probably won't affect your passing, because it's shorter than the "average female" range and bordering on the "unusual health conditions affecting height" category.  And if it makes you feel better, I was 4'11" from when I was ~14 until I was 19, and then I grew 3" in a year, and then another 1" a couple years later, so it's still possible to defy the odds (but important to be realistic about your chances).

I'm short too. I'm about 4'10 and I'll be 29 soon. But the reason I'm so short is b/c I have this hip thing called congenital hips.  It sucks to be short.  I keep thinking... what straight girl is gunna wanna date a short trans guy that's shorter than them? Hopefully there are straight girls out there that will.

yah I hope I get taller, my brothers are around 5'3-5'6.
@dominick, you gotta find a straight girl that doesnt care too much what others think of her boyfriend. my girlfriend actually thinks its cute that im a couple inches shorter than her!

This. In fact I notice them less often than notice them (but I may just not be paying attention). Also it can depend on the shape of your neck too. Wider, thicker and/or necks with more fat will hide Adam's Apples. Just because you don't have a giant Adam's Apple jutting out means it will out you.

adams apples aren't prevalent on lots of guys.... so yea while its true if someone has one they're more than likely male its not a necessity.

That being said: I didnt have one pre-t now I distinctly do.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
