Hi, i am new to the site, well to the transexual world in general.  My 16 yr old daughter just informed me she was born in the wrong body.  Her name is now going to be Matt.  He is the best kid in the world.  I have always been close with him and i am so glad he could come to me with this.  I think I have always known but now that it is deffinate, I willl do whatever it takes to make him feel comfortable in his own skin.  The first thing i can think of, besides loving him unconditionally,  is getting educated.  I already learned from forums is to start calling her a him :-) It will take some getting used to.  Thats why I am here.  I want to know all I can so  that we can make informed decisions on HRT and what to expect.  She has told her 15 yr old brother and his only comment was "the only thing thats going to change is the name I call her"  Matt sees that he will get a lot of support and I personally have gotten more hugs and I Love Yous in the last two days than ever :-)   I never thought I would be the type to have a blog but I started one to document my experiences. We are about to go on a very important journey.

I like your attitude.  I am sure you will get some good suggestions here.  Your son is lucky to have your support.  Step one will be to find a therapist who is familiar with GID issues (gender idendity issues), they will write a letter authorizing hormones for your son.

Hi Mattsmom, :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 4100 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.

Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another parent. :icon_hug:

And be sure to check out these links ( MUST READS )

At least you are trying.  Some many parents don't even try.  They throw their child out like yesterday's trash.  He may want to join here, if he has not already.  We are very protective of our underage members.  He will have so many old brothers and sisters he will feel ike he is being watch all the time.    ;D

Hugs and Love,
Janet

Welcome to the site Matt's mom  :icon_wave:

He is very lucky to have such an accepting mom. Is he on the site as well?

This place is great for answering questions and just over all helping. The people here quickly become like a second family.

mattsmom

thank you for your support.  he is not on it yet.  I just told him about it this morning and he has been at school.  He has been seeing a therapist.  She is not  GID specific therapist although she has some experience in the field.  She was the best i could come up with on my insurance.  To get the hormones, can it be any therapist or does it have to be a GID one?  This forum is helping formulate questions so that when I start talking to his doctor, i will be prepared.
Thank you

A therapist is who you need to write a letter to your doctor or endocrinologist that instructs the physician that the patient is informed enough about the risks of hormones.
So therapist, then the doctor who will probably send your son to a specialist endocrinologist.

Thank you for suporting your son and coming to the right place for information. I am sure that everyone here will agree that you are awesome for being there when so many parents throw away their transsexual children.

If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Matt's mom just curious, you don't have to answer but I told a mother yesterday on y!answers about this site and was curious if it was you? Cynthialee has it right but I've heard of some people just going straight to their general practice doctor if the doctor is comfortable enough to work with hormones

Hi newmom

I just think that you are a perfect mother.
I love it when a mother is so understandig and open minded, you only thinka about the welfare of your child.
you have my deepest respect.
start fireing all your questions, we'll do our very best to answer them.
It's good to have someone like you on the forum.

welcome and lots of love

I was right in thinking I would be getting some support here, thanks.  I was not the mom asking information yesterday, so that means there is another acceptiong mom out there :-)  I know of a very good endo and will find out if he also specializes in this area.  i saw him for a non working thyroid problem. If there is one thing i do, is my homeowrk.  i willl keep you all informed.
once again, its nice to know people are there for me.  And when Matt comes home from his friend's hose tonight, we will be looking at this site together.

Cynthialee said it so well.  He's very lucky to have a mom like you.  We are very lucky to have both of you join us.  You both are very welcome here.  Feel at home and be yourselves.  We're all about acceptance.   Parents like you are shining examples to a still-intolerant world.  God bless.

Welcome aboard ... this is a good site.

Also, when my son came out to us ... we joined this yahoo group.  It's a great group of folks that will answer questions and let you grieve for the loss of your daughter while celebrating the birth of your son.  It's made up with parents who have kids as young as 4 and as old as 50...it has a nice mix.  Most of them have high school and college students
