Hey, just a question for all who may know anything about DVT or Pulmonary Embolisms. How common are these conditions for someone that is 22 years old???

I began self medicating a low dose of hormones in June out of desperation but then I began seeing a doctor at an LGBT clinic in September to monitor my HRT. They did blood work and everything appeared to be fine, so after wards I moved up to a more adequate dose.  Thought I don't think blood work would find DVT if it existed right? He took a look at my medication and gave me the okay on it and said I don't need to come back until December 2nd for a reevaluation.

I was a smoker and stopped but recently had a relapse due to stress and I know that can increase my chances, so I'm trying to quit once again. I'm also trying to set up a full physical with a doctor in my town, which I am iffy about because of me being trans and I think I'd have to mention HRT to get a proper check up. Also the availability of appointments at the clinic and lack of transportation currently makes it hard to make an appointment at the clinic in the next week.

My question is can a GP check for DVT or would I need to see a specialist?? Also is DVT common in someone so young? It would be nice to hear from anyone also that has any experience with this.  I don't know if my fear for being checked out is warranted or if I am just playing things up in my head, I think it is better to be safe than sorry though.

For a fit and otherwise healthy 22 year old a DVT would be very rare.

Trust me if you have one YOU WILL KNOW about it. I've seen people who have had them and I gather they can be darned painful.

Yes stopping smoking is a jolly good idea but don't panic because as long as you stay on the recommended dosage, do enough exercise, and get monitored periodically your risk is pretty low.

Thanks for the reply!! That is what I figured , I have anxiety issues and usually when I feel something going wrong with my body even physical pain it turns out to be a symptom of my anxiety, I was shocked to see the vast list of symptoms that can be cause by anxiety alone. Anything from fatigue, muscle pains, to chest pains, skin rashes, and fever. However because of HRT risks, I was a little extra worried about DVT possibilities. I highly doubt I have it, but asking questions couldn't hurt. I may also go for that physical anyways just to check my overall health and feel a bit better about myself and how I feel.
