Feminist transsexual Sema has been staying in male dorms since she left home to study. She wears lipstick but does not believe she has to shave. Although she studies at one of the most liberal universities in Istanbul, life is not very easy, she says. An uncertain future awaits her after graduation as Turkish society is far from accommodating toward transsexuals.

Sema, a 23-year-old Boğaziçi University student calls herself a marginal transsexual. "We all have some certain images of femininity or masculinity, and approach the issue through codes of dual sexuality," she said in recent interview with daily Radikal.
