Yes you can.  I know people who do it.

Of course, their kids will become completely overwhelmed and confused when they go off to college.  But up to that point, you can parent in a vacuum.

Child molestation is about POWER, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.  Religious leaders and youth group leaders are acknowleged as having power by child and parent.  A child who can trust his parents to believe the child is on a level with or over the outside power sources is going to be safer than one whose parents defer to the outside source and dismiss the power of self the child should have.
