The Great Divide

Why do some male-to-female people fully transition while others choose to live in-between official gender designations? Answer: there are numerous reasons, but I want to focus today on only one of them: Testosterone . . . I'll explain in a moment.

First, to recap: We've talked a little in recent posts about the difference between transgender people and transitioned people. In short, the word "transgender" is an umbrella term covering a wide range of people who live somewhere between the two official binary gender designations. Transgender people may blur gender lines, but they are still classified as their birth gender in official government-related documentation. In other words, a genetic male who has not fully transitioned -- through hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and gender reassignment surgery (GRS) -- but lives as a female anyway may get the "Ms." or "Madame" treatment from most people, but the government will still be calling her "Sir" or "Monsieur."
