do women really have a stronger lower body?

even stronger than most males? males do have more upper body strength, but women seem to have the potential to develop more lower body strength. most of the female-dominated sports require a good lower body strength. like figure skating, ballet, and gymnastics. unfortunately they are not given the credit they deserve. and then for childbearing, with the wider hips and thicker thighs women have. they must be essential for childbearing. now, if they have the ability to get more muscle mass down there than men, i'm not sure, but women seem to naturally have a better muscle tone in the lower body overall.

Not sure about strength. But women do have a lower center of gravity. Refer to the chair test. Men cannot lift the chair, while women can.

The chair test.

You walk away from the wall two foot-lenghts and then put your feet together, bend over, put your head against the wall, lift the chair, then try to stand upright. Most men cannot stand upright while lifting the chair, while women can do it almost effortlessly.

The lower center of gravity is do to the fat distribution being in the thighs and hips.

I was told when I started hrt that I would lose about half of my upper body strength and a third of lower body strength, so by that calculation, no, guys are a lot stronger. I told my doc that this was a little worrying as I was a complete weakling to begin with

I'm a bit odd when it comes to body proportions and whatnot (marfanoid habitus) but I have dangly genitals and was able to do this without a problem.

Hmmm, interesting - I can do the chair test easily, but not the push-up test at all, despite being pre-HRT.

No women don't have more strength in there lower body.
You have named sporst that have huge amout of female population doing them compard to men. Execpt for maybe gymnastics, but in gymnastics I also fail to see how woman dominate the sport. I don't no much about gymnastics, but as I see it for the floor rutines, male and females compet alot differently. Females are more about grace and beauty and making there's flow. Were males seems to be the bigger the big better.

I can see somthing like figure skating there is some differnce, is the musscle ratio/different build might let a female jump high or spin faster im not sure.

I come from quite a sporting backround and in both sports I play it was always dominated by males.

As for the wider hips and thinker tighs. I think you would find, all of the top athlets in male sports all have smaller hips, witch is good for less resistence ect. And I think you would find that males have thiker thighs with better muscle to fat ratio. So when you say that, I don't believe they would get a better muscle ratio then men, it just doesnt make sences when you think about it.

As for woman not getting the crdit they deserve, I think thats not really true. Woman don't pull as big of a croud as men do, witch means they wont get the prize money men get and wont get the ammount of support they do. Unfortunatly that is true and thats how it will always be. But when you think about it's fair.

Thats just my opinion. :)

Women just tend to have an easier time passively creating mass (storing fat) over all, whereas men on average are better at actively creating mass (building muscle).

Of course there are plenty of women who have the potential to be stronger than some men, but it's not the norm.

I just tried these tests. I successfully did the chair test, and failed the push-up test. Since i'm a bio-male, i wonder what that means

i'm not sure, i think alot of mtf are born with some level of androgen insensitivity syndrome that doesn't allow their bodies to respond the best to testosterone so the body is allowed to develop more female. i have some resistance to testosterone, and my body ended up developing more female.

I'm tall and all legs plus used to run bunches so most of my weight is in my legs.  :o

No. Women have a stronger lower body relative to their total muscle mass, and the strength gap between a man and a woman of the same weight, height, fitness level, and preferred athletic activity is far less in the lower body than in the upper body, but the woman will still usually be weaker in absolute terms.

Those tests are interesting. I can't do either...But I'm known for having very weak upper body strength. XD

Interestingly enough I can do both tests.  The push up test was not as easily done but I could still do it.
