The REAL reason I am resurrecting this thread is to ask if anyone else has noticed that fewer and fewer people on the
'intarweb' seem to know the difference between
lose and
loose?
Lose, as in cannot find. Like, if you throw your shoe in the ocean, you may lose it. Besides, why would you want to throw your shoe in there?
Loose, as in not tight. Your shoelace is loose. Tie the damn thing before you trip.
Seriously... these days I am more surprised when I see lose used properly than when I see loose used improperly. I would say up to about 4 years ago I would see loose used instead of lose in about 1 in 10 instances. Recently it's been more like 9 in 10. It's like an epidemic!
Am I the only anal retentive person to have noticed this? ;-) Were recent dictionaries printed incorrectly? Did the US of A try to simplify spelling again since I finished school?
