Some days, just waking up trans is enough. Never mind dragging my weary ass out of bed and into the shower, climbing into yesterday's jeans – I hitch up my pants and I fake it, just like a man – the daily commute and getting to work to find the mail server crashed last night.

Some days, just dealing with my own internalised transphobia, laid down like stratified rock over half-a-century of denial – some days that's enough to keep me preoccupied with my own thoughts, my own fight to swim not sink, or at the very least just stay afloat. Not waving, but drowning...
