Just back from the lawyer's office. I have legally changed my name - goodbye Victoria Ann :o hello Mark Charles! ;D

I am so excited...just had to let a few people know! Now I can change my driving licence, bank accounts and passport, and apply for jobs as Mark without feeling like a fraud. Woo hoooooo!

Is it expensive in the US? It only normally costs £30-40 to change your name by deed-poll here in the UK. As my wife works for a lawyer, it only cost me £5. Sounds like I'm luckier than I thought.

Depends on the state ... some are as little as $75 and I have seen some are around $500 - and that's if you do it yourself.  If you hire an attorney the cost goes up

It's around $50 here.  (Colorado)

Damn I wish it was as cheep as that.  It's $550 here.

I didn't know how much cheaper it was other places.  That pisses me off a bit.

It probably has to do with the notice in the paper for 6 weeks and the fee to go to court.
