Concerning Dr. Brassard

AweSAM!

I'm sort of at a crossroads. SRS is a long way off, and surgical approval is not going to happen until at least September. As much as I hear great things about Dr. Suporn in Thailand, I am not in any position to fund my surgery, especially with a low dollar. FFS is going to take very very big chunk out of my budget. I know Dr. Brassard is my second first choice now, and it looks like I will be seeking funding through CAMH. I do have a few questions regarding his surgical technique.

I am unsure of what his inversion technique actually entails, as it does mention a scrotal graft. Any opinions on this?

Is genital electrolysis required for Dr. Brassard's technique? Never mind.

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

Renate

Many surgeons have performed well over 1000 vaginoplasties.
If you take a single case, that is an 0.1% sample.
There are always many who will say that their surgeon is the best.
There are always a few who will say that their surgeon screwed up royally.

Pick any of the big names and nobody will complain that you live dangerously.

The inversion/scrotal graft procedure uses spare scrotal skin as the "end cap" of the vagina.

It's not like other grafts where remote skin is harvested.

Another consideration is the amount of posts regarding negative outcomes from the surgeons in Thailand.  Quite a few lately.  You don't seem to hear too much negativity about North American surgeons.  SSometimes it's best to wait for a while and jump through hoops(CAMH) rather than live with an unsatisfactory result for a lifetime, don't you think?

I had mine with Brassard in September and am satisfied with the results.  Then again, the reason for my surgery was for more than sex and relationships.  For me it was all about having the confidence to do all that I wanted to do in life, and that is slowly coming to fruition.

From the couple of sites I have read, Dr Brassard is considered a very good surgeon for the following reasons :

-One-step procedure, meaning you have ONE surgery ; no need to return for a labiaplasty.
-Little visible scarring despite it being a one-step procedure.
-The clitoris is hooded with a part of the uretra. This gives more of a realistic result, according to these sites.
-Patient accompanying through all the steps and the healing is excellent.
-Québec residents can get it for freaking free under certain conditions.
-Overall feedback is good.

The only bad point I have read is that the area appears to remain reddish spotted (because of the clitoral hood made from the uretra) for a long time after surgery.

About the scrotal graft... Unless it's about a colo-vaginoplasty (which is definitely not recommended because it is dangerous AND feels weird and uncomfortable according to feedback AND requires longer healing AND can complicate because the colon tissue can start making digestive stuff), most if not all surgeons use scrotal skin to make the end (bottom) of the vagina, while the "tube" is made from the penis' skin. The basically make the skin thinner then surgically remove the follicles (a hairy vagina bottom is just...), before making it the wall where your uterus should be.

Did you read the info on his website ? That's where I got everything I told you.

If price were no issue, than I might consider using another surgeon. I had Dr. B for bottom and top surgery and though generally satisfied, I think he rushes through his surgeries. In so doing, you may lose sensation where you really hope to keep it. His suturing could have been better, too.

Now, if I was Canadian and if the surgery were free, then I would use him. However, remember that this is a one shot proposition. If your surgeon is either technically poor, or just not careful, you can lose the ability to orgasm and will lose feeling. You really never know how a surgeon will perform, and many patients will never be completely honest with you. We all too often only hear the good, and not the mixed reviews.

BTW, I think Brassard's nursing staff, hospital and recovery house is second to none.

@ A: I read his website before posting, and the only thing that stood out for me was the mention of a scrotal graft. The rest is pretty standard.

Regarding the urethra mucosa being used for hooding.  In my case, this result is excellent--albeit still swollen.  The redness is going away quicker than expected and the lubrication in that area, for me, is excellent--a little more than I bargained for.

Let me just add that Dr. Brassard and his staff are also there for you beyond your surgery.  I had some concerns regarding a tiny spot of blood on my dilator last week.  I called the residence and later that evening, the night nurse called my back to inform me that he discussed my concern with Dr. Brassard and told me all was normal.  He was right as the bleeding has since stopped.

I haven't lost any sensation.  I'm fully sensate throughout and am orgasmic.  I also have no problems with dilation and excess erectile tissue.  Things were rough at first, but are now coming along well beyond my expectations.  The swelling is going down at a very fast rate now and everything is settling nicely.   As for honesty, if you search through my earlier posts, you will see that I was not very happy at first.  I was very concerned with the amount of swelling and the aesthetics.  Things have become so much better since then.
