Golden States of Grace: Prayers of the Disinheirited

We begin today with religious communities living on the margins in California far outside the mainstream. The new book "Golden States of Grace: Prayers of the Disinherited," portrays photos of very intimate moments with very diverse communities of faith, from a branch of deaf Mormons in San Diego to members of a transgender gospel choir and Latina sex workers from Mexico who pray to a female folk deity. Host Scott Shafer talked to photographer Rick Nahmias, who began this project seven years ago.

One of the communities featured in Rick Nahmias's book is the Transcendence Gospel Choir. For nearly a decade, the group has been a haven for its members, who identify as transgender or transitioning.Reporter: Caitlin Esch
