Sadly, journalism today is taking a major dump. I don't care if this is just a freebie paper in a newsstand. We have these in Arizona--The New Times (Phoenix) and the Tucson Weekly. They are free papers filled with ads yet unlike the "real" newspapers (i.e. Arizona Republic or Arizona Daily Star) the grammar, verbiage, and content are terrible. The sad reality is that it is a domino effect where if the ignorant masses accept journalism like that, it will trickle up to the medium-level newspapers (such as the Republic or Star) and eventually the highly respected papers (NYT, USA Today, WSJ, etc.) will also have to lower their standards.
Original Blurb:
QuoteWe hear cops are about to get serious shooing the >-bleeped-< hookers off the stroll around St. James Park and regular "Bronx hostesses" from their usual stroll around Davidson Ave. and Kingsbridge Road - much to the relief of suffering homeowners.
A high school English teacher should not even tolerate this let alone adults. I'll try re-writing it:
Some soures state that police officers may begin crackdowns to remove transgendered prostitutes away from the James Park area as well as the Bronx escorts often seen around Davidson Ave. and Kingsbridge Rd. - much to the relief of concerned homeowners. My example is far less biased and far better writing skills. I have no college degree in writing of any kind. If I can do this, why can't a newspaper? Literacy and education in the U.S. are in critical trouble. Obviously I have a problem with the use of the word "
>-bleeped-<" but I see a much larger issue here. The standards of journalism are just shy of bankruptcy.
