Nearly a year later, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has issued a "reprimand" against the two RDS radio jockeys, who spent their television broadcast deriding Weir for reinforcing the stereotype that men's figure skating is for nelly ->-bleeped-<-s.
Though the twosome apologized on air — two days later — some 119 people complained to the standards council about their remarks.

At the time, Weir took the high road, saying, "These two men ... [were] criticizing me as a person, and that was something that really, frankly, pissed me off. So more than anything I had to make a comment and a statement to say I hope more kids can grow up the same way that I did, and more kids feel the freedom that I feel to be themselves, to express themselves. That's the message that I wanted to come out of all this."
