I'm working with a company that does hydraulic fracturing for natural gas and oil extraction.  I'm the only girl there and I must say, everyone is really nice.  Apparently being a girl in a man's world gets you a lot of props when when you do all the stuff they do.  It's weird though.  Even though I was behind enemy lines for 21 years I can't relate to half the things they say.  They say some things never change, but in this case, everything has.

I'm happy you got a job with the thing you studied in you seemed... unstable when you were unemployed.

You've found a new job? That's really great! SO many people are out of work today, it always feels good to hear of someone finding work! Good luck with it!

Transition is expensive (so is the cost of living). Having a job gives security, and it brings us closer to our goals. It's a terrible thing to be out of a job...I once was out of work for 6 long years. Trying to find peace of mind without a reliable income is almost impossible.  I wish you the best!

I wasn't unemloyed rather I was underemployed.  Working in fast food is no good when you have medical expenses that need to be taken care of and insurance won't pay up.  But yes I was very unstable.  That's all in the past now.  It's a lot of work (like 80+ hours per week) but I like it.  I have to wear these unflattering coveralls, safety glasses and a hard hat.  I'm so glad my voice is passable because there are no visual indicators once I put on my gear.

Well, think of it like this, underneath the coveralls and hard hat, if you have a bad hair day, no one will know!

80+ hours/week is a LOT, but if you're getting time and a half for overtime, those paychecks will sure look good! Big change from fast food, that's for sure!

Even if you aren't getting time and a half, those hours still pay off. That, and a job you really LIKE? It's a beautiful thing!

(Can you get the coveralls in a nice color?)

The coveralls are green and I'm on salary so no overtime but there are stage bonuses so that adds up to a fair amount.  I'm working as a field engineer but my training for it involves having me do a lot of the things regular equipment operators do.  After the training is over I get a company truck, a credit card, phone, and laptop.  They're going public soon and I'm going to try to get in on buying stock at the employee discount price.  It's a growing company so I should have a pretty good asset.
