I'm having MEMORY LOSS problem with hormones

I don't know whether it's the Estrogen (Estradiol Valerate injections) or it's the Anti-Androgen (Spiro) but ever since I started taking these I get terrible memory loss problem. I forget even slightest details very quickly, it's so embarassing specially at work. Does anyone have this same problem ever since you startes taking hormones? I still don't understand whether it's the Estrogen or Anti-Androgen which cause this or it's both? HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM, is there any way out?

I can't really say since I haven't started yet, but I CAN say I already have these problems.    The best way to cope that I have found is to find a method of remembering something and sticking with it.  If you have to draw pictures to remember, then do it!

I have been on HRT for 32 months Now and I never had a problem with memory

I had a teacher that had a problem with memory.  He also had a notebook that he wrote in all the time.

No problem after 12 months here.
I am sometime forgetful but that's normal for me and has nothing to do with meds.
I'd check with your doctor right away it sound serious.

I am quite the opposite-my memory loss and forgetfullness went away when I started taking estrogen. Having said that, I still keep notes handy and triple check everything so I don't miss the small details.

Stop taking the pills. If your memory returns, try a different AA first, then a different type of oestrogen. See if your memory degrades again.
Keep us posted on the results.

hmmm.... I having similar problems but I am not sure if its due to my problems getting sleep these days which has become bearable (mostly due to the HRT) ....

my best friend at work pointed out that since I have started HRT it is happening more often...

I wonder if it could be genetic... I really hope not...  or you mentioned that you are in India as well... so it could be the brand of meds....

Could you pm me the names of the drugs that you are using?

Micronized progesterone seemed to make me forgetful as all get-out. I halved the dose and it seems to be okay. Talk to your doctor and see if a slightly lower dose might be appropriate.

OMG! It might be this too cos I take Utrogestan (Micronized Progesterone) cyclically.

I'm about to start progesterone myself, I'll see how I feel after a couple of weeks on it, then I'll post to this thread again with my results (if I can remember it  )

HRT is a surprisingly individual thing. What suits one person causes another horrible side effects. I reckon you'll be find though. I've taken utrogestan since it was released and I can still remember my name... (just)!

No seriously one of the common causes of memory fade is poor hormone balance. Progesterone has an opposing effect to estrogen so sometimes while on progesterone one needs a slightly higher dose of E.

On my side I felt a sharp amplification in emotions. I became very sensitive emotionally and cry for nothing like a baby. I generally take it cos they say it's a good hormone and it gives your breast a rounder and beautiful form.

Really? I thought progesterone was anti-androgenic and that it reduced necessary dosage (in the absence of another 5-a reductase blocker or anti-androgen).

I think there seems to be a mix up... from what I've read progesterone doesn't  have an opposing effect .. but there is a cheaper substitute that cost half as much that does oppose effects of E

Actually progesterone does reduce androgen production because it is chemically quite similar to androgen - a kind of female version - but if you read the medical manuals on HRT you will find that the CORRECT terminology for combined estrogen progesterone HRT when administered to natal females is "Opposed Therapy" thus my application of the term was accurate although possibly not entirely clear in this context.

Progesterone does have a balancing effect to estrogen with the natal female. Yes it increases the effect on development of breast tissue, but it also acts in opposition in relation to the uterus - which obviously is not of concern to those who do not have one, but does have some relevance for some intersex conditions where some uterine tissue may be present.

I don't recall ever hearing that before.     (And no not trying to be a smartie...I've really never heard of anyone having that problem before from hormones...)
