Hi all,

I just got my first lot of bloods back since starting hrt and although my Dr has not said anything, I have been looking for info on prolactin as mine seems high and I have no idea whether it is or whether it's normal for a mtf on hrt. I'm a bit panicky as I know someone who has had problems with this and due to a mix up I'm not going to be seeing a specialist for some time. I have noticed that they are doing some further testing on my blood (macroprolactin,FAI,SHBG) that were not requested but those results haven't come back yet which all adds to the worry.

Does anyone know where I could get further info?

I think high is normal when on oestrogen. Doc was worried about me because my prolactin was getting higher even though my dosage stayed the same... though naturally i'd like to know if anyone else has experienced that and whether it caused any problems.

If you're worried you could ask your GP.

my prolactin level is high too according to my initial blood test, but the endo just prescribed me estradiol and didn't even mention the prolactin

It's usually pretty harmless if your prolactin levels are high-ish. Hyperprolactinemia (spelling?) doesn't pose many risks. It mainly will only hinder sex drive and menstrual cycles for genetic girls. For guys there's a small threat of hypogonadism, where the testicles become underactive, but if you're MtF this might actually be a nice thing xD.

In short, nothing to worry about.

For very extreme levels of prolactine you can have eye problems or also milk production in your breasts i've heard... but as you monitor blood levels every now and then you have nothing to worry about. I've also heard that people taking androcur (instead of spiro) have a higher risk of hyperprolactinemia but i'm not entirely sure, but US patients are usually not prescribed androcur (cyproterone acetate). if I were in your shoes I would probably await the extra blood tests and see if that reassured that there's nothing to worry about.

My endo told me that high prolactin levels can sometimes indicate issues with the thyroid. Not trying to worry you, but just so you know and ask your endo if you wish.
and i know that i'm never alone
and i know that my heart is my home
Every missing piece of me
I can find in a melody
