I recently (maybe a week ago) was pushed to go back to school. I had taken about 2 years off unintentionally and am finally going back to finish my degree. I was only short by three credits and was able to secure the classes I needed right before the deadline. Before when I was in school I wasn't out to my professors, and when I visited a lot of them remembered me. Now that I'm physically transitioning I want to/will have to come out to my profs. How exactly do I go about this? Since I was/am a photo major I'm considering speaking to the head of the art department (one of the people that remembered me and was happy to see me). That's part 1 of this whole thing. How do I come out to my profs?

Part 2:
My school uses the Banner system which allows students to choose a "preferred name" I've also heard of students at other schools are able to pick pro-nouns too. I tried to change it myself online last night but wasn't allowed to. I plan on calling the registrar tomorrow to see if I could have a preferred name used and if that name would be printed on schedules that my professors get. If you're in college check to see if they use Banner, if they don't try to contact somebody in the school who might change that.

hmmm, what I did, was only talked to the one prof that f'ed up.. and sent him a personal message. Others I did not conntact. I went straight to the assistant Dean, told her my situation - and because of the potential danger of being outed by having my female info in the system, they switched my legal name to my prefered name and completely erased my female legal name from everything including transcripts, they also switched my gender over in everything. Profs that I had before and that knew me haven't said anything regarding the change, they have just gone with it- and profs that didn't know me before the switch don't know me as anything other then another guy in their class.

Ah, I don't have that option. Plus, right now I'm not being read as male (haven't been all the years that I've been trying to present as male). I'm bound to be outed anyways. There's just going to be some people that I might see once a week or more that have known me for years as female.

I'm giving a call tomorrow to see what can be changed in the computer system.
