On the T Word, and Costs

Some thoughts in response to some of your comments, in the spirit of discussion (not criticism):

I've never viewed "transgender" as a negative word. There are hundreds of thousands of people who identify as transgender. Google the word sometime -- there are millions of "transgender" sites.

Before I was granted my official gender designation change by Quebec, all of my identification papers had me listed as "M." That's the way they do it in Quebec. They do not grant a change until you've had SRS. Period. So, I would have preferred "T" over "M" on official papers until I had the surgery. Why?
