So, apparently my new counselor has never had a transgender person as a client... To add to that, he doesn't seem willing to deal with the topic much. She does not want to even consider finding me a doctor that can deal with transgender patients and doesn't even seem to understand what transgender means!!

I found a counselor only a couple hours away, but he doesn't accept insurance and I can't afford it otherwise... Every time I try to get help noone can... I'm not sure what to do...

Does he not accept insurance, or not accept YOUR insurance?  Also, is it that he doesn't accept them or that he's not in your network.  I would personally be a little leery about someone not accepting any insurance, it just rings warnings to me.

He accepts NO insurance but he's the only therapist around here who is willing to deal with transgender patients... meh...

N.Chaos

Eesh, that's awful. Whereabouts are you located?
  •

Ashleyjadeism

Middle of nowhere Virginia... In the carroll county region... Most backwater redneck place on earth...

Damn, I'm sorry hun. What bout those online counselors, I've never tried one but it'd be better than nothing probably?

That sucks. :(

I think N.Chaos' idea about online therapy is good. I'm probably going to have to do that, too. I live in WV, so I can understand what it must be like. =/

^Same here. The only ones nearby are at least an hour away and I don't have money for therapy yet, letalone a damn car to get to it. Plus, I articulate myself a hell of a lot better via the interwebs.

That so called councelor is grossly unprofessional and you can tell her that from me.

To state, outright, that she doesn't want to deal with transgender is completely unacceptable. It's like a mechanic who doesn't want to deal with brakes or a plumber who doesn't want to deal with leaks.

Councelors don't get to choose what they deal with. if they can't do the job, then they need to find another. I suggest that would should consider something in construction or perhaps transport.
