I almost came out today.

I put my sex on FB as male. My aunt saw that I had my relation to my mom listed as "son", and my mom called me. I panicked, said it was a mistake, and changed it back..

This is harder then it seems. I've been trying to come out for several months now, half a year at least, but I always panic.  My mom seemed pretty calm on the subject though..

Any advice?

About a month ago, I set my FaceBook profile to female and an anime girl as my profile picture. Weird as it can be, but nobody said a thing about it to this day! Either people really didn't notice or that they don't care.

Not much advice except decide for sure that you want to come out and go for it. I'd suggest coming out to your mom before changing your gender on FB. You could write a letter, send an email, or call. Just stay strong. If you are sure that you are ready then go for it and remind yourself that if you almost come out a lot of times eventually someone will get suspicious and you might find yourself being outed.

You can also just leave it blank.  That's what mine's at until I get up the nerve to talk to my family/some friends.

I had it set for like...4 months before my friend brought something up, he said it was cool if that was the way I wanted it but it was just weird when we was reading "My name here" has commented on HIS status"
I just told him I was sick of getting all those mass message 'just for girls' facebook messages like "wear this colored bra for this today, or set your status to this' - which is true, I was going to kill the next person who sent me one, but I figured it would be easier to pass it off as that for now. I have it set so that it doesn't display in my profile now.

I did come out today and it feels good to finally not have to worry about it anymore.
