hair transplant question

Hi,

I have a question about hair transplants.  I'm in my early thirties and while my hairline has not receded too badly, I've got a spot on my crown about the circumference of a soda can.  I've been on rogaine and propecia for a little over a year and while the spot isn't growing, it hasn't filled in.  The spot isn't completely bad. but is very thin, thin enough too see the skin.  I've done a search through older posts about hair transplants and most have been about filling in a receding hairline.  Has anyone had hair transplants to fill in a crown and if so are you happy with the results?

I'm thinking about getting transplants because after a decade and a half of sitting on the fence I think I'm finally going to work up the courage to transition.

Thanks,
Bree

Hi Brianne,

Had a hair-transplant about 2 years ago. My hair had been thinning a bit too much and wanted to fill it up a bit. I was on propecia (actually proscar, which is the european version) - and still going with that. The propecia didn't support a regrowth, but did stabilize the entire thinning process. (I also tried rogaine, but I seem to be allergic to it). I'm pretty happy with the results. The team I went to, used the FUE technique (if I remember correctly). I was supposed to go back for a second session, but held back. The reason why is that I was too much on the fence, meaning: my hair is healthy and sufficiently abundant not to worry about it. So I felt like waiting until I got started on hormones to see what the impact of those were before going for another transplant.

Greetz,

Emma

Thanks for the info.  Right now I'm thinking about doing it sometime in the spring assuming I can find a plastic surgeon that I trust to do a good job.

Hi -
Whilst my crown is good, I had my hairline improved with some micro hair grafts done at Dr Zukowski's office in Chicago. His hair technicians just filled in the side pieces, where my hair was always a bit thin. I had this done last October and it's just amazing the difference it's made. In this short space of time it's hard to tell anything has been done and it looks very natural.
I am very happy with the work done, and could thoroughly recommend Dr Z's team. If you need to know anymore you can drop me a PM

Hi Saskia, I am hoping to do this too next summer/fall.  Dr. Z thought I needed about 1500 grafts, which seems like a lot to me.  How many did you have?  Is that what he recommended.  I have had some other work done by Dr. Z and found he always wanted to do more than I thought necessary, but and happy with what he did.  Would you be willing to post/send me before and afters of the hairline?  Did it look strange for the first few months after while they were growing in.

Thanks,
Jenna

I've been thinking about transplants too.  my hair isn't thinning too badly, and finesteride (aka propecia) as well as the vitamin d I have been on has been growing hair pretty well.

My issue is my natural airline has always been a little higher than cis women.  it makes me a little paranoid.

I sort of wish folks who had it done could post before and after pictures and where they had it done (and maybe the costs and amount of graft) so we can get a better idea of results and costs as well as backup the surgeons work.

Bree,

Using E, Finasteride, and Monoxidil, my loss stabilized and my crown grew back significantly.  I had hair transplants on my hairline a year and a half ago at the clinic of Dr. Cardenas in Guadalajara, Mexico, and did just over 2K grafts.  They do very high quality micrograft work.  I lost few, if any, of the grafts they did.  That is saying a lot because my hair is very fine and hard to work with.  I will be going back in May for a second round to fill in my part a bit and have some done on my crown.  Why did I go there?  I checked out their references and they were great.  Plus, it was significantly less expensive. FWIW, the latest cost I got from them comes out to be around $1.50/graft.  Stateside, all of the consultations I got resulted in a price of around $4/graft.  Even with the cost of transportation, this is less than half the price.  Plus, if you bring a group of three or more, everyone gets a further discount.  If you have any other question, please do not hesitate to ask.  Of if you want to get a group together in May, or want to see pics, drop me a note.

Hope this information is helpful!

Thanks again for the info, I'm glad to hear that it does work on the crown as well.  Like I said earlier, I'd like to it in the spring.  The biggest city I'm closest to is Indy and I'd like to find a plastic surgeon there for the transplants.

Hi Jenna

I had about 1800 done and had around 150 free as I'd had my FFS with Dr Z a few months previous. I had the works done by Dr Z on my FFS and was originally a little sceptical but I'm so glad I let him do it all as its made such a difference. Even though I was  full stealth and have been for 20 odd years, I still did not like some aspects of my face and this sometimes caused some confidence issues. After the FFS I no longer have these confidence issues.
I took a week off work after the hair treatment but no one noticed anything strange about my hairline even though I was a little worried myself. Everything which Dr Z would happen did happen (including the new hair appearing to fall out). It all grows back again and as I mentioned my hairline is great now. I'm travelling at the moment so not able to send before and after piccies, but when I get home again in a weeks time, I'll try to do this for you
