wheat thins are delicious

Let me just start by giving a small time line.

Mid September I came out to some friends at work and tried to get a new nametag but was told I could not because my name was not legally changed.  Was also told I could not use the men's room because I was still legally female.

Late December I had my name change legalized.

First week of January I got my SS card and new driver's license so I got my new nametag at work and am now fully out as FTM go by male pronouns, male name everything, but the thing is I still use the women's.  A friend online told me that I needed to go to the store manager and not ask but tell them this is how it is going to be and if you have questions I can answer them or try to and here is my lawyer's name if you would like to ask him anything.   Ideally there would be a unisex bathroom at my workplace but there is not.  I'm not comfortable going to the women's but I'm nervous to go to the men's.  I'm even more nervous to try to broach the subject with my workplace.

Maybe I should not even try to ask/tell them anything and just start using the men's and if they say something about it tell them I just assumed that now that I was presenting/living totally male I needed to use the men's room and should actually use it to save myself and coworker's discomfort.

I would really like advice or stories of your experiences with this topic.

I don't have personal experience, but I think this is the best route to go. It makes complete sense. I'm sure they don't have other male employees using the women's restroom, and as you present as male and they changed your nametag they should change their views on the restroom issue too.

I just use the mens room.. Im a manager and Im close with most of my co workers but no one cares. I guess it all depends on the location and stuff. Good luck with your boss, hope hes understanding.

It's absolutely ridiculous that not having your legal gender changed is an excuse for not being allowed to use the mens' bathroom. What if you started T and grew a beard but remained "legally female"? Would they seriously expect that you'd be better off in the womens' room under the pretense that you are "legally female"? It seems as if cissexist body policing is inherently incompatible with common sense. -_- Did you try asking your therapist if (s)he can sign you a carry letter? If you have a letter signed by a doctor they should let you use the mens' room.

Well soon after I came out I spoke to my supervisor who is not a manager or anything but does scheduling of my section of the store I work at.  I was talking about the bathroom thing and she said well that (aka them telling me I had to use the ladies room) was different now because I was fully out at the workplace as male and she would help me talk to my boss, but I'm super paranoid/scared of talking to them and don't think I should have to, it should be common decency that I just can start using the men's.

Also I'm already on T.  have been for nearly three months, and am starting to be very masculinized, my voice is deep, i'm getting a little wispy mustache, etc.

I haven't addressed the bathroom issue at my school. I want to use the mens room but I'm not sure if I pass that well yet. I pass well enough to get nasty looks in the womens restroom. One girl even started yelling "You're in the wrong room" as me, which I thought was inappropriate. Regardless, I try not to use the restroom. I'm tired of the dirty looks.  :-\
Every day brings me one step closer to being myself.
