Dear everyone,

I'm looking for information on which European surgeons to consider. I believe there is a chance for me to get funding for surgery in another EU country. Do you know which country or hospital makes the most MTF surgeries i.e. who has the most experience?

The Netherlands? Germany? Great Britain? or somewhere else?

Thanks a bunch

Great Britain has two very good surgeons.

James Bellringer, and Phil Thomas.

Both have their fans. I'm partly a Bellringer girl in that he revised my then 25 year old operation last year to give me better cosmetic appearance and to sort out a medical problem which had resulted due to some anatomical anomilies which I had.

Both surgeons do well in excess of 100 procedures each year and so are well practiced. Both can produce first class results using any of the available techniques.

I would certainly recommend Bellringer to anyone. You can find his web page here http://www.bellringers.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/first.htm
BE AWARE though that the pictures that you will see both on his own web page and indeed that of Anne Lawrence ARE NOT recent and from what I have between my own legs I can tell you that he has improved the technique a lot since those pics were posted.

Other European surgeons I've heard from besides the UK surgeons (Bellringer and Thomas) are for example Dr. Krege (Krefeld, Germany) in Belgium there is Dr. Monstrey (you can find results over here: http://syndromedebenjamin.free.fr/medical/chirurgie/vaginoplasties/vaginoplasties.htm).

In the Netherlands we have Dr. Bouman Dr. Niessen Dr. van Onselen, but they will only perform surgery on you if have complied to the Dutch protocol and have followed treatment in Amsterdam over the course of some 2-3 years.

Thanks a bunch both of you! I know a couple of trans men have gotten the Danish state to pay for their surgeries with Dr. Monstrey, but as far as I know I will be the first woman to ask for state funding of foreign surgery so it's pretty important I find the right one, because other women are probably going to receive the same threatment in future.

I've got an email saying

Chirurgische Klinik
München-Bogenhausen GmbH
Denninger Str. 44
D-81679 München
http://www.chkmb.de/urologie/geschlechtsangleichende-op.html

does 700 surgeries a year. That's a lot.

700 surgeries a year is alot, they probably have a team of multiple surgeons? One results from Dr. Bernhard Liedl -- who works at the Clinic -- can be found at Anne Lawrence, but it's not a recent one.

Here in the Netherlands it is an unusual thing to get funding from the health service for surgeries abroad. It probably wouldn't be possible 10 years ago, but times are changing. I'm pretty sure to get funding and be free in my choice of surgeon worldwide (even outside of Europe).

Your choice of surgeon will probably be reviewed by a medical advisor of the state. If they believe you to be in good hands (and can prove that with facts) and if the technique your surgeon of choice is a technique they can relate to or is somewhat similar to the technique used in your own country they will be more likely to approve. That is sort of how it works in the Netherlands and maybe it is quite similar to the Danish system? Good luck with your choice.

My surgery was done by Mr Philip Thomas, great surgeon and good outcome from surgery. You can read my post op stuff some where on here as I posted my thoughts after surgery.

There's also Gunnar Kratz in Sweden who also does all the surgeries for Icelandic transsexuals...

His girls are most apparently happy with their results, but the boys... not quite as happy.
