How exactly do you use a sports bra to bind?

I've been researching this, but it still puzzles me a bit.

I've decided to stay on the down-low and play tomboy (or butch I suppose) until I feel more comfy.. Or until I move out. A tomboy that calls herself Shayne.. Yea.

Trying to get a binder seems like too awkward a thing to try and explain without outing myself. So a sports bra is good enough.

I'm thinking of getting a frog bra. But how does it work?

I've heard the "Put a few tight ones on" trick.  But: A, that seems a bit expensive. B, wouldn't that make your chest bigger?

I've also heard the "Buy one that's somewhat smaller than your cup size and layer". I'm a 36D so that would be...

The sports bra thing won't work for a D.  I'm in between a B and a C and it doesn't even work for me.  You really have to be an A or small B for that to work completely.  It will make bigger chests smaller and they won't be as bouncy, but they won't be close to flat.
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
Why bounce around to the same damn song?

I'm a B something and have no binder so I use sports bras. They don't get me binder-flat obviously but they do a pretty darn good job if no one is planning on physically going over and feeling you up. Someone even asked me if I had gotten "the surgery" the first time I bound around them :p

I don't even wear sports bras that are a size too small (though I'd imagine the effect would be even better). I just wear the ones I've always had. I put the first one on, then put another one on backwards. For extra binding I then put on a tight, small sports shirt and tuck it in. From the side it looks pretty good. I don't have the time now, but I'll post some pics when I get back.

Sports bras will usually list the size range on the packaging, so you can choose one smaller than your current size.  However, as has been said, it won't really get you flat.  I use one while I'm washing my binder, but as a c, it pretty much just keeps me from jiggling around.  I have heard of people making binders from everything from the tops of control top panty hose to a pair of jeans, but I have no idea how well they work.  You can play around and see what works best for you, but please stay away from tape and ace bandages.  You also may be able to get away with a normal binder and just explaining it as a sports bra.  A lot of them look like one.
Oh I'm a lucky man to count on both hands the ones I love

I've use a frog bra, and I've got to say it works pretty well.  It's a compression bra, so it works in the same way a binder does - compressing your chest to make it flatter.  It probably won't get you completely flat, though, but for me it worked okay as long as I was wearing loose shirts.

Regular sports bras never did anything for me, binding-wise.

I was looking around for a frog bra the other day and they're not being made.  If you see any for sale, let me know :)
