The panel was composed of professionals and faculty members from the U and dealt with issues currently affecting American society.

Issues under scrutiny were immigration, voting rights, academic success and equality and the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens.

U professors Enrique Aleman, Pei-Te Lien, Elizabeth Clement and William Smith spoke about these issues based on what they've learned through research and experiences.

Here in Eugene, Oregon the way we celebrate MLK day is to invite the Rev. Walter Fauntroy to come and speak about Civil rights. The Human Rights Commission and Lane County think it is all right to have a person who is African-American, has follow MLK jr. around in the early 60's and is a big champion of civil rights. Rev Fauntroy is on the board, appointed by Bush, to try and get a ban on same sex marriage. He is a leader against any type of same sex marriage, but he is a civil rights leader? Look him up.

Hey!  That's my Alma Matter. I did my post graduate work there.  For what it is worth folks, the U is the only bastion of moderate thought (and a little on the left too) in Utah.  There used to be a joke that women would go to Brigham Young University (the Mormon university) to find a husband. Women would go to the U to find their child's father.  The U actually had some realistic perspectives to present on life.  I know.... hard to believe but it's true.

My son was torn as to which school he should attend for his doctorate.  I am sooo glad he went to the U!
