I never been steered to the womens dept for shoes. I been wearing boys shoes since early grade school. I have no knowledge of this gap your talking about.

Does the boys' department at the stores you shop at carry sizes larger than 6? Or does the men's department carry sizes smaller than 8?
(in some places/at some times the gap's been between sizes 5 and 7 rather than 6 and 8, which is nice for me as a 7, but screws over the 6s)

I'm an UK size 5, and it does my head in, especially seeing as most mens shoes atart at 7. Though I think I'm going to start wandering around the boys section just in case they have something that I like.
