ESCONDIDO: Decades later, transvestite murders unsolved

Doctors who examined the bodies discovered the victims weren't women at all.

The killings of transvestite prostitutes Rafael Sanchez-Ayala, 25, and Castro Estoban remain among the more unusual of the San Diego Police Department's cold cases.

No new clues have surfaced in the nearly 21 years since the slayings, San Diego Police homicide Lt. Ernie Herbert said last week.
