Whether embraced or not, trans women become subjected to the beauty myth. Just like with cis women, the response to this influence varies greatly. Some retain their tomboyishness, while others go for the glam; some find a newfound appreciation for makeup, while some challenge typical boundaries of gender. While these are usually harmless explorations of a new social identity, there are also damaging responses to the beauty myth. One of these is the development of an eating disorder. It's not a huge leap from [gender] dysphoria to [body] dysmorphia and, sometimes, they go hand in hand.
