Haha I hope so. I really love graphic design with a passion and would hate for it suffer due to my gender change. >> I'm not gonna out myself publicly until I'm out of school though. I'm one of the better designers at my school and would hate to lose out on recommendations or something from teachers who currently like me but might have some grudge against transwomen.
I don't know if that's a great idea. Designers, more than a lot of other careers, rely on internships and peer relationships to give them a head start. I think your teachers, peers, and internship opportunities should know who you are. It's not a great idea to leave them behind.
College is a relatively safe place to transition and it's better to graduate as the girl you are and start job hunting as the girl you are instead of trying to deal with that after school. It's going to set you back and you won't have the student loan options or general college life support.
You may find that being trans actually increases your opportunities. Especially if shame or this secret makes you at all socially awkward. I'm not sure where you are but I'm pretty hooked in to the design community. PM me if you want to talk about it. Waiting, especially if you're young...might cause some major regrets. You have some major opportunity for better results if you start HRT asap.
