I've been on HRT for 6 months now, and my shoe size has gone from a woman's size 9 to a size 8 (US Size). I read of the same thing happening in another thread here. Anyone else have a similar experience?
???

I will say that I LOVE expanded selection available to me now.

Gabrielle_Nicole said that HRT altered the arch of her feet, and she lost a shoe size.

My that would be my dream come true.  My feet are way too long, size 12 mens (US). I will never find shoes without special ordering them, and of course the selection of the ones you can special order will be dismal, and well I love shoes.  :(

I've gone from a UK9 to a UK8 and sometimes a UK7 depending on the shoe albeit they may be a little tight but for cuteness I will endure :)

Yep, it happens, I went from a UK 8 to UK 7 and I also lost hight from 5ft 7inch to 5ft 5 1/2 inches. That too can happen.

I've lost 1 inch in height, so far as well. I've heard of both these things happening sometimes with others, but it really is amazing when you get to experience it yourself. Simply incredible.  :icon_dance: :icon_joy:

Now I have an excuse to buy more shoes...   :D

Yes. I wore a 10.5 in mens my whole life. When I transitioned I started with 12/13 shoes.

Nowadays an 11 is too lon gand a 10 is too tight around the toes....so I'm around a 10W

How does HRT make you loose length?  I can understand width.  How does it make you lose height?

Man I wish I could lose some height.
I'm 6ft 3in... I wouldn't mind just being 6ft
Maybe I should get started on HRT already!  ;D

OhBoy!  now I can't wait for my feet to shrink.  Even if it is just the width that would be great.  And my hgt.  I have always been 5' 9 1/2".  But then as one grows into their senior years they tend to lose a bit of height.

Good question. I can only speak for myself, as I'm sure with all things, your bodies response to HRT depends a lot on your genetics, but I've lost a good bit of muscle mass and a few pounds since starting HRT. I used to be more on the muscular side for a guy, and the loss of muscle is one of the first things to go. I also do more cardio now than ever as well.

hard to tell, i've always had pretty tiny feet (uk7 and occasionally six depending on brand) there seems to be a bit more space for me to wiggle my tootsies in, but like i said, quite hard to tell

I read a theory that as MTF HRT leads to a loss of muscle mass, the muscles in the spine will shrink. As they shrink the space between discs reduces and we grow shorter.

By no means am I an expert but it sounds plausible to me.

Now I have "I Have A Thory" from Buffy - Once More With Feeling stuck in my head.

Yep, Caitlin, that's the theory, I've know others besides my self that have height loss. It does seem plausible. I had to be checked for osteoporosis as I'd lost 1 1/2 inches in height since starting HRT but everything was fine and the doctor put it down to that theory on HRT. So its great to see things assuming the female build, lol.

each and every time "i have a theory" that song just pops back into my head! And that happens so often!

anyway, i'm happy to see so many people saying they've noticed that! I hope my feet shrink too, considering they are big for my size.... even as a guy

Absolutely, a good half shoe size. Pre HRT I wore a woman's 10 1/2-11. A year plus on my medication and I wear 10's all day long, about the right proportion for a 5' 10" 146 pound bean pole like me. I'm convinced shoes are designed around a size 6-7 foot, but it is sooo much easier to find something cute in the clearance rack at Kohls these days!

Wait, HRT alters the arch?  Cause I have high arches, and one of my bones on my right foot is slightly shifted to the left, and sometimes when I walk my foot hurts a lot.  So, would this make my situation worse?

I bought shoes recently, and while I bought size 10s as always, I noticed they were a bit roomier than they used to be. I might be closer to a 9.5 now or between sizes.
and i know that i'm never alone
and i know that my heart is my home
Every missing piece of me

the loss of foot length and height is usually do to the fact that after you start hrt the cartilage in your body gets reduced, therefore the cartilage that makes up part of the discs in your spine become thinner, and for your feet, all the joints in you your feet are coated with cartilage that thins out in small fractions which reduces the spaces between your joints, therefore reducing your overall foot length
