Am I in the right place?

Over the last few weeks I have read so many stories of heartbreak and of despair. Stories of not feeling right in your own skin, that death would be better than living as a man any longer. That's not me, I can deal with this, I've done it for 35 years. I don't have to like it, its just the way it is. I'm just not sure that makes my journey valid when put up against such torment. I know that there horror stories of men who have done what I feel I need to do and have made horrible mistakes, so I'm going into this with open eyes. How do know this is even something that I should pursue? Is it worth it? I love my friends and family, but I think I that my happiness is much more important than their comfort.

if your questioning whether or not to transition to the other gender then you are in the right place.

there is no rule of validity other than what you can and cannot do in nature. and dont let anyone make you feel like you cant do something because you dont fit a mold. also the same goes for whether you should or shouldn't do something.

with that being said just know that this site isnt full of doctors and psychiatrists. we are regular people who you can trust to ask advice without being ridiculed or misunderstood. as long as you dont seek anyone here for the answers and just advice and perspective you fit in wherever you fall on the gender spectrum

As Eve of Chaos and Andrew already said you have come to the right place. There is no right or wrong way to feel about your gender, not everyone feels completely male, and not everyone feels completely female. That is for you to decide, and as you said yourself, your happiness outweighs the comfort of others, they don't have to live your life.

You will discover that you are not alone as you go through the boards here. This site is full of a great mix of people, each unique in their own way, but with some uncanny similarities in their lives, whether they are MTF, FTM, Androgyne, or the supporter of a transperson. With that, know that you have found a safe place to explore your feelings and gather the support you need for your transition, whichever direction you may be headed.

Yes. I'm 36 and can go on living as you can but there is this undercurrent of hopelessness?   

This is a great board for getting understanding about what it might take to make you feel more connected to your body.  A little or a lot.  I've learned a lot about the realities of other people's experiences and have really identified with several people through their stories.   I've read plenty of information online about being trans and have read many message boards before and it never felt 100% there...this board is different and runs the gamut, MTF, FTM, Androgyne, Crossdressers...and very little judgement over you feelings and leanings.

A good place to be honest with yourself and others.

What I kind of learned here is that we are all starting a transition to be comfortable in our own skin.  It might mean surgeries a whole new life, it might mean we just feel a little less alone and unknowable.

It's good to meet you.

This forum discussion kind of reminds me of The Beatles song about a "Nowhere Man".
You needed to go and experience real life before there's nothing left for you but the "Nowhere Land".
I can understand that.
But it wasn't enough for me, the Gender identity disorder (GID) was what made me live the Nowhere Land.
And I am so glad I did.

You really don't have to know what gender tile or direction your going to become a member.
I know I didn't.
