In March 2010 I went in front of the University Council to urge Penn to drop the discriminatory exclusion of medically necessary treatment for transsexual staff and faculty. My talk was well received and almost every person in the room applauded (which is rare). It was obvious everybody understood the importance of providing treatment for Penn's transsexual community. Soon after, Penn approved the removal of the exclusion for students thanks to lobbying efforts by the Lambda Alliance, SHIAC,and the UA.
