First off, I have to point something out that people seem to forget excruciatingly commonly.

A transsexual who has less than a month into transition usually has only a few pieces, only dresses once in a while, can often appear androgynous, and has had no surgeries.

They are, then, a cross dresser, basically, by the usual standards that one might hear in pretty much any group out there.  Or perhaps a ->-bleeped-<-.  Or possibly gender queer.  Or lord knows what else. And it is during that first early part — from the very start and up through often the first year or two of "full time" — that they suffer the worst discrimination, harassment, and abuse.
