Last week I started electrolysis. I found a skin therapist not too far away from where I live and I've already been there 3 times. She's a very nice girl and we seem to get along just fine. She never had a ts client before and she was surprised to find out how 'normal' I am.. I decided to be totally open about me to her because I'm gonna see her a lot.

For the next two months I have 3 one-hour appointments every week with her!! I expected 30 minutes a week, so 3 hours a week was kind of a surprise. I don't even have a 'full beard' or anything, I only have white/grey hairs that 5 years of laser did not remove, and some very thin dark hairs. After two months we may switch from 3 to 2 appointments every week, depending on the results. I am not sure, but for the amount of hairs that I have, 3 hours every week seems a bit much. She seems to work fast too. Anyway, I'm glad that she proposed this. The sooner they are gone, the better. I would hate not being able to shave for 4 or 5 days and then get only 30 minutes of electrolysis, and that week after week after week.. She told me that I will probable have to go to her for the next 2 years, but less and less. In the end maybe once a month.

She's totally okay with me wearing make-up (foundation, bronzer, eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, everything!). I told her I never ever leave the house without make-up and she said that I could wear make-up and that she'd just clean the parts that she works on. No problem. It works just fine (as long as I don't look in the mirror when I leave there, lol).

The pain.. I've heard so many people complaining about pain from electrolysis but I can't say that I think it is very painful. We just chat and chat and chat and I feel the needle of course but it doesn't really hurt. Around the lips , yep, hurts! But that's about it really. I don't think I even feel the electricity? Is that normal? If I could have 3 hours electrolysis in a morning or afternoon instead of one hour a day then I would. For her one hour is more than enough though because after a while her neck and back start to ache. I can imagine that it's not a job that you want to do for hours in a row if you don't really have to.

My advise to others who haven't started yet is not to worry about pain until you actually feel what it's like. If you've done laser and could deal with that then I don't see why you couldn't deal with this. To me laser was a lot more painful, and also especially around the lips.

What is really painful is the fact that the next couple of months I can only shave once a week! That will be so weird. It already is actually. I have another appointment tomorrow. No matter what, hair or no hair, I will wear make-up, and scarves lol. It'll also be a bit of a challenge to go there 3 times a week for a couple of months, it's almost like a job lol, but hey, it's for a good cause.

Did anyone else have a couple of hours of electrolysis every week? How many hairs did you have when you started (yeah, difficult to answer I guess) and after how long were you 'clean'?

Anyway, just wanted to share my 'electrolysis experience' so far and say how happy I am that I started :)

Three hours each week is a great way to get areas cleared and maintain it.  I missed a two-hour appointment two weeks ago (due to having the flu) and it's almost impossible to get back on schedule.  My electrologist is just that busy, apparently with lots of people who have a lot more flexibility in their daily schedule.  :(  Now I've got two shadowy dark areas of regrowth on my upper lip and I hate, hate, HATE seeing them.
