Sorry i didn't quite know where to post this. But hey i'm doing a transgender awareness workshop with an lgbt youth group for ages 18 -23 and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas for the likes of games, icebreakers or activities we could do. Basically something fun.

Preferably they have to be related to gender, trans issues or diversity.

Basically i just want to make my workshop less of a boring lecture of me giving out about how badly i'm treated lol ignore the angry trans guy lol.

Anyway...

any ideas would be very much appreciated

thanks in advance :)

Hey Andy,
If it's a fairly small group you can play a game where each person writes down two truths about themselves and one thing that's false. Then you have to try to guess what is true and what is false. So for me I might write on a piece of paper to hand in with my name on it:

I graduated with honors from university - true
I was married twice - true
I know how to juggle - false

So you, as the facilitator, will read the person's name and the three things without disclosing what is true and false. Then you go around the room and see if you can get a consensus about which is the false item. You can write 1, 2, 3 on the board and a hash mark next to each item someone says is the false one. Then once the consensus is reached, the person discloses the false one. It's a good way to learn about fellow group members :)

OH! I just saw that you wanted it LGBT-focused. Ok, how about this, this might get them to talk about their identity and visually show that everyone has different segments to their identity. Have them go up to the front of the class and have spectrums up there like this:

Masculine |------------------------------------|Feminine
Butch|--------------------------------|Femme
Male |------------------------------------| Female
Gay |--------------------------------------|Straight
Top -----------------------------------| Bottom (um, 18-23, maybe not, lol)
Dominant |----------------------------------|Submissive )personality type)

And some others...each person goes up front and marks where on the spectrum they are for each of the items. The idea is that everyone gets a better idea that there isn't just ONE identity for people, there are many. This might be a little intimidating for that age group. I've done it in groups of like 18-40 and the older people were usually more comfortable with it. Good luck!
