Joanne Proctor, noted authority and activist for the rights of intersex and transsexual people, passed away in New Zealand early in the month of March 2011.

Jo Proctor had an extensive medical history that included hypertension and angina. Her hospitalizations had become more frequent in recent years, causing a move away from her beloved rural location so she could be closer to urban medical care.
