I know this is an old post but I'll add my personal experience so it can benefit others who might have the same inquiry.

I had to take all of mine out when I had my tongue split this summer. 20+ piercings and some microdermals too.

The Surgeon used an electro-cauterizer to close up my wounds, which could've grounded to my piercings. This was performed by a general plastic surgeon who does boobs and tummy tucks and nose jobs. Conductive or not the Dr. probably isnt willing to risk something going wrong if your jewelry isnt as non-conductive as you thought it was.
