Director John Waters says his late friend and muse Divine was so obsessed with Elizabeth Taylor that he wanted to be her and even dressed as her to go on a date with a female, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Waters is such a fan of Boom!, a poorly-received film adaptation of a Tennessee Williams play that costarred Taylor and her former husband Richard Burton, that he's hosted screenings of it around the country. When he was invited to a holiday party at Taylor's Los Angeles home he told her how much he loves the film and she thought he was insulting her. When she realized his sincerity, Waters found her "lovely and nice and really sweet."
