So I'm flying next week (I'm in the US), and will need to do my shot while I'm gone. I don't usually check luggage so I plan to bring my T, the needle/syringe in its packaging, and a doctor's note in my carry-on luggage. Anyone have any experience with this? The airline charges around $25 to check luggage, so I'd really rather just carry it on. Hoping the doctor's note will be enough for the TSA and I can just bring my stuff on board.

Look up regulations on the TSA site. Here's one page they have; there may be other information sprinkled throughout the site. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/specialneeds/editorial_1059.shtm

I always make a photocopy of my T prescription and keep the copy in my safe in case I ever need it for whatever reason. If I were planning to travel, I would take the photocopy instead of, or in addition to, a note from my endocrinologist.

This photocopy can be useful if you order T through the mail, too, when you think you have a refill but they're saying that you don't.

Make sure you take a couple of extra needles in case you drop one or it breaks!

The TSA sees people carrying injectable medications all the time.  They probably won't even think twice about the fact that you have needles in your luggage, and I'd bet that they don't even want to waste time looking at your doctors note.  As long as you follow their guidelines regarding liquids (make sure the vial of T is in your quart-sized baggie with your other liquids) you should be good to go.  You can just leave the needles in your carry-on bags as they go through the scanner.  I've flown with T and needles before without a single problem, and I don't carry a doctors note (though my prescription information is on my vial of T).  I even flew once with some used needles that weren't in their original packaging, since I didn't have anywhere to dispose of them until I got home, and that also did not present a problem.

Also, just FYI, all airport bathrooms i've seen (i fly pretty regularly) have Sharps containers in them, so you could put your spent needles in there!
