I've talked about the ongoing struggle that many people have in the trans community with overcoming the shame and guilt issues that plague us.

Time and time again I see those shame and guilt issues manifest themselves in internalized transphobia, timidity in terms of fighting and calling out people who oppress us, and the lack of pride in being trans men and women.

I really feel that, just as in Harvey Milk's day, until the Trans community stands up to be counted, we will never truly be accepted into society.  I fully understand why we go into stealth, but when more of us stand to be counted the world will see we are all around.

Mrs. Smith with the three children is Trans.  So is Mr. Rober at the market.  Gosh they are all around and are just normal peole like me.

We certainly have those who would be our negative publicists in plenty, and yes I prefer not to meet one of them in polite society thank you!  That way I remain polite.  I can quickly name the things that I am NOT as a transgendered person but too many people will not believe what I am not due to that publicity.

It is pretty boring actually to be trans once you have made your mind up and given yourself permission to exist.  I agree completely that it is that boring existence that needs to be publicized.   Now that the confusion and turmoil has subsided, I am actually more likely to be someone that can be known by others.  Now that my edge is off on "passing" I can smile and listen more effectively to other people.  Now that I am happy, I can bring more joy to others.  If I smile at you will YOU know I am trans?  If I smile at you and you need a smile from some one DO YOU CARE that I am trans??  I am proud that I can smile now, it hasn't been very long though.
