Hi everyone,
I really am thinking of starting to grow long hair.My hair are ultra short and whenever in the past i try to grow my hair ,in about 2 months my hair grows upwards and my entire hair becomes dirty and uneven. The hair does not goes downwards but grows unevenly in all direction that makes my hair really untidy as a result i have to cut my hair because of its untidiness. My hair never really goes downwards.I really want to grow long hair.Time is not the factor.I cant go to a saloon for long hair because men in my city hardly get long hair. Please help.

for me it was long and ardous until it grew to my neck then it was more manageble to put in a small pony tail. have tried any hair products to tame it until it does get to a point you can put it in a ponytail
In my imagination I see a fair world,
Everyone lives in peace and in honesty there.
I dream of souls that are always free,
Like the clouds that fly,
Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.

Until there is enough weight in the hair that gravity takes control, your hair will do pretty much as it pleases... I started with fairly short hair early last year and I've just reached the point where the weight of the hair will keep things heading downwards... there still isn't quite enough for a pony tail..

Everyone who grows their hair long will have to go through the 'middle length' phase where it just looks bad.. Many women go through this as small children, many less as adults.. You either learn to live with it, or get a wig..

I agree; time is the best treatment for some cases of unruly hair. For some of us, the only manageability technique is gravity. Of course, for me, a wig is the only real feminine hair solution because of a bad case of male pattern baldness that 13 months of hormones may have stopped, but as yet not significently reversed. The only long-term solution is find a hairdresser that is discreet. Be patient.

My hair is extremely straight and fine, so I had to use a gel for a while, until it got long enough to lie down properly.

My hair is already long enough to be pulled down, but now I'm in the stage that my hair looks like the hair of an eighties disco/metal singer, realy nasty looking. So what do I do? I wear a cap, I even have my old dreadlocks saved up that I can put under the back of the cap in order to make my hair look long.

Leave-in hair conditioner and brush it down and then style.  It will get to a length that it will lay down by itself.

Good topic... was wondering about this same thing.

I've currently got a long way to go, I'm hoping that by Fall my hair will be at a decent length.

For me it is all about the right conditioner and shampoo. I've grown my hair long before, but at the moment I am currently in the unmanagable stage. So I use a conditioner/shampoo combo as well as a leave in conditioner, and alot of hairspray when I get ready for work.

I started taking a "Hair, Skin, and Nails" supplement from the drug store and it has worked wonders. I used to be able to get by with four to five cuts/ year. On this supplement it is growing about 1/2" per month. Not fast enough but fast for me. You can get it at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS and just about any drug store. You just have to look for it. The cost is $12/60 pills.

I take two pills twice a day. It has worked great for me.

The best way to have healthy hair growth is the basics for being healthy in general. Eat the right foods- especially fruits, vegetables, whole grains and drink plenty of water. Water is very important for hair and nail growth. Exercise, at least 30 minutes a day. And sleep is also very important it helps the growth of hair and nails. There are certain supplements thats can help ur hair be healthier for example Biotin. You also have to be careful what you put in your hair and what you do to your hair, avoid styling tools but if you need to use them use them as little as possible. Just avoiding heat and chemicals is the best advice honestly and the most obivous. And lastly you have to take proper care of your hair depending on the texture as well. Idk your hair texture but whatever it is you should find the correct ways to care for it, for example the products, conditioners and stuff that you should use for you specific hair. Hope it goes well for you :)

I began to grow out my hair at age 20 and have not even cut it (other than having bangs eight years later)

I find i have to change conditioners every 2 bottles or so. If i don't my hair becomes blah and lifeless. Has anyone else experienced that? Kim

When hair exhibits the characteristics you describe, it sounds like it has officially entered the "awkward stage".  Just keep growing it, no need to hit the salon.  Grow it for a good year or more, beyond ponytail stage before you get it cut.  It's the only way.  Don't cut it and it will get long.  Hope this helps :)  ~mamba

Your hair will go down as soon as it is long enough.

You will be able to find a salon you just need to look for one. Most people are interested in the money not the person so the best thing to do is to go in and ask about having longer hair. After all they can only say no to you.
