Not quite a year ago Patty and I went to our first Pride festival. (pre-transition). I was very nervous and still dealing with a terrible social anxiety disorder. At the entrance to the fair stood a lady holding a small piece of cardboard and with a maker she had wrote "Free Hugs" . She came right up to me and gave me a big smile and a big hug. It made me feel so nice, my eyes filled with tears. I said to myself "I will be the "Hugs Lady" someday.
Well last Thursday I read about Southern Oregon Pride being denied entry into the Medford Oregon Pear Blossom Parade. They said that Sopride was to controversial for a "family parade". A protest was staged mostly on the internet. They reversed there decision and allowed sopride entry. Sopride asked for as much support as they could get, to show the Medford parade goers their unity. Even though Medford is about three hours away I decided to make a day of it. It was going to be my chance to be the "hugs Lady".
I had such a wonderful day. I met lots of nice people, made new friends and gave lots of BIG hugs. The biggest problem I had was that people wouldn't let go of me and when they did I had to run to catch up with the parade. I did this all in heels !!!! about a mile and a half, plus running through the crowd to give hugs. But hey, I wore comfortable shoes for 47 years. My feet were preserved for an event just like this...
I love it when, at the end of the day, laying in bed. I just have to say out laud,"I love my life".
Sorry I haven't posted for a while, I'll explain why at another time, but some things I just can't keep to myself.
