My psychiatrist agrees I am a transsexual woman, I have a Gender Therapist who has sent me reports and referall letters, yet, it is impossible for me to find a endocrinologist to help me with hormonetherapy. Despite the high number of TG women here, the topic is taboo. There is a law that authorizes surgeries, but there is no legal support for hormone therapy per se, and doctors are afraid of it.

Now, there -are- specialized clinics here. I'd have to travel by plane, more than one time a week, to get to them. Additionally, the threatment standards are extremely bureaucratic and long. It would take many more months, and an amout of money I can't afford, to begin the therapy.

In addition, many of the doctors here prescribe meds that aren't supposed to be used in TG women. I have seen many doctors using Diane 35, and I quote this one because there is already a warning on the forum agains't it. My trump card though, is that I am a medicine student. I have studied the hormones I need and their dosages, adverse effects and screening exams I should do.

So I am tired of all this. I have come to the decision I am doing this on my own.

Sorry to hear all the troubles hun. Just be careful when going that route. Hopefully you'll at least be able to get check ups w/ doctors to make sure all the vital stuff is going alright. Def. keeping you in my thoughts :)

Just a thought, but if you are going to do a thesis, perhaps the effect of hormones on a transsexual would be a good subject?

I already did my thesis, it is not on the topic of hormones. Nothing stops me from doing future research though. I admit there is a lot that must be done for us, I hope one day I will be able to help in the field but for now I have to concentrate on my transition.

I will look into check ups, at the least. If it doesn't works, I can schedule the lab exams on my own as well, since I know what is needed. The sad truth is, I have more knowledge on the topic than -any- doctor I could possibly go to in my city. Even on the exams, I am better off on my own.

Thanks for the replies girls.
