J.CREW Pushes Transgendered Child Propaganda
Women's clothing company highlights pink nail-polish wearing boy in promotional email

http://www.mrc.org/cmi/articles/2011/JCREW_Pushes_Transgendered_Child_Propaganda_.html

J.CREW, a popular preppy woman's clothing brand and favorite affordable line of first lady Michelle Obama, is targeting a new demographic - mothers of gender-confused young boys. At least, that's the impression given by a new marketing piece that features blatant propaganda celebrating transgendered children.

An email sent to customers on Tuesday, April 5th contained a promotion for free shipping if the customer spends $150 or more. The email also contained a feature called 'Jenna's favorites,' highlighting special selections by J.CREW designer Jenna Lyons. Jenna selected a striped long-sleeve t-shirt, and hot pink nail polish by Essie, modeled by her young son.

I loud J.Crew for pushing such a propaganda, it will help crush the religious intolerant and move forward the "gender rights" agenda for children.

I would like to ask that all member send an email to J.Crew lauding their commercial

I have to agree that all I see is a mom and small fry grooving out for fun.  Small children, the boy's age have no natural social conceptions of what is right for their gender, and therefor no guilt or shame about what they have on.  The smell and feel of the polish and the color excite children that age. The sensation to them is fun and the time with a busy parent for doing something "silly and playful" that both enjoy is the highest level of parenting. Since mom is not freaking out, its wonderful for both of them.
I refuse to have a war of wits with a half armed opponent!!

Wiser now about Post Op reality!!

People should just have a cup of tea and a lie down if a mother playing with her child gets them upset.

It will do no such thing, it will hopefully - AS DESIGNED - sell more of the ->-bleeped-<- that J. Crew sells.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

The only propaganda here is that the CMI and author of the article are trying to push forth.

One more reason to shop at J.Crew

They're featuring "blatant propaganda celebrating transgendered children" and they support "liberal, transgendered identity politics." I mean, check this out:

Horrifying. Here's how the right-wing Media Research Council describes it:

J.CREW, a popular preppy woman's clothing brand and favorite affordable line of first lady Michelle Obama, is targeting a new demographic – mothers of gender-confused young boys. J. Crew Plants the Seeds for Gender Identity

A recent feature in J. Crew's online catalogue portrays designer Jenna Lyons painting her son Beckett's toe nails hot pink. The quote accompanying the image reads, "Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon."

Yeah, well, it may be fun and games now, Jenna, but at least put some money aside for psychotherapy for the kid—and maybe a little for others who'll be affected by your "innocent" pleasure.

A J.Crew ad that shows a top designer painting her young son's toenails neon pink has some parents and doctors seeing red.

The caption below the picture reads, "Lucky for me I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon."

But not everyone sees fun in the ad.

The more I think about this, the more it become obvious that is it some lame attempt to goad Michele Obama into responding.

This article by Keith Ablow sounds more like the drunken rantings of a red neck than the considered opinions of a heath professional.

A boy likes pink, so the world is going to end.

So what if a little boy likes pink polish on his toenails!  It is usually the older sister(s) that do those things to him!  Youtube if full of those things!  He may play with the little green army men soon if his mother lets him!  I loved those little green men.  I used my imagination and a sandbox with those.  Me and a cousin did sadistic things to those using firecrackers, lighter fluid, kitty surprise traps, etc. that I will leave that to your own imagination.  Gawd, I cannot stop laughing remembering those things!  I did not have this type of laughing from memory pangs before HRT!

Oh no!!!!! A mother is applying a pigment onto her son's toenails! As if that's bad enough, the pigment REFLECTS WAVELENGTHS THAT ARE ON THE LONGER END OF THE VISIBLE SPECTRUM! OH, THE HUMANITY!!!!!! We all know that science shows that when boys are exposed to electromagnetic radiation in the range of 700nm (red and pink), it will instantly turn them into a girl! How can a mother be doing such horrible things?!?!?!

Ah, geez!  No wonder!  Between the darkroom and the other things I do, I am exposed to wavelengths of 650-720nm, no wonder I'm dysphoric!

The J. Crew Transgender Plot to Destroy America

It looks like not only do the wingnuts know that trans people exist now, but they're learning how to make everything about trans people in the same way they've been making everything about gay people for four decades. Here's a certified Fox News doctor and a wingnut nonprofit worker talking about the ad on the right:

"This is a dramatic example of the way that our culture is being encouraged to abandon all trappings of gender identity," psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow wrote in a FoxNews.com Health column about the ad.

Pink Nail Polish On Boy In Clothing Ad Sparks Fits of Wingnut Outrage
Posted April 12th, 2011 by Evan Hurst

http://www.truthwinsout.org/blog/2011/04/15944/

We all know the Bible verse from our Sunday School days, you know, the one about how only girls are supposed to wear pink nail polish.  It's right there, red-letter-edition, I believe.  [That means Jesus said it, in case you didn't know.]  So it's appropriate that a wingnut going by the name of "Erin R. Brown" has published a fever screed bemoaning the "transgendered child propaganda" in a J. Crew ad:

    J.CREW, a popular preppy woman's clothing brand

Whoa, whoa, whoa, Erin, J. Crew is a women's clothing brand?! They must be more subversive than I thought with their transgender propaganda, because I am a BOY BLOGGER and I am totally wearing a J. Crew shirt right now. Gay/transgender agenda bein' crammed down everybody's throats, ain't it!

Two things ...

1. My son, who shows no signs at all of inheriting my dysphoria, used to love fooling around with his big sisters and painting his toenails crazy colours. he'd then go outside and play football, ride his bike, play adventure/war games with his friends and so on. It's not transgendered, it's normal ... and even if it were transgendered SO F***ING WHAT??

and ...

2. This is an example of blatant double standards ... No one would think there was anything 'transgendered' about a girl doing boy stuff. What's the problem the other way around? I think a lot of us whose dysphoria is absolutely real, but not so crippling that they canno survive without transitioning would be saved a lot of pain and frustration if we were socially enabled to express the feminine side of our natures the same way women can express the masculine side of their natures. They can wear men's clothes, or undertake just about any traditionally male activity while still retaining their female status. We are confined within the incredibly constricting boundaries of socially acceptable masculinity ... So we have this terrible choice: stay frustrated and unfulfilled or risk everything in the hope opf a successful transition. God, I wish there were a middle path!

A New Low for Fox News: Wearing Pink Makes Boys Transgendered
Posted: 04/13/11 04:45 PM ET

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-logan-levkoff/fox-news-jcrew_b_848355.html

It's like deja vu. I know I've written about this stuff before. More than once. Remember this one? "Long Haired Boys Who Like Pink"?

Fox News has once again sparked an insane and hate driven debate about gender identity and sexuality. The crux of their inane argument: Pink nail polish on boys is part of insidious liberal campaign to normalize ->-bleeped-<-. (Okay so here's the first thing. Being transgender doesn't need to be normalized. It's real -- not a made up issue designed to tick off conservatives.)

J. Crew Ad With Boy's Pink Toenails Creates Stir
Social Conservatives Call Ad 'Propaganda;' Transgender Groups Say Reaction is 'Ridiculous'

By SUSAN DONALDSON JAMES
April 13, 2011

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/crew-ad-boy-painting-toenails-pink-stirs-transgender/story?id=13358903

A mother paints her son's toenails hot pink because it's his favorite color. Does that mean he'll become gay or transgender? That is the controversy surrounding a J. Crew ad that is swirling around the Internet.

[...]

One of Brown's online readers wrote, "A small child, with no secondary sexual characteristics, cannot be considered 'transgendered' or even a transvestite. On the other hand, a fully grown person such as yourself can definitely be considered a small-minded a**hole."

Another noted that Speaker of the House John Boehner loves pink ties -- does that make him gay?

Pink Toenails

http://www.femulate.org/2011/04/pink-toenails.html

Currently, there is a brouhaha concerning a J. Crew advertisement that depicts a Mom painting her son's toenails pink (because it is his favorite color).

One hockey puck claims that the advertisement is "blatant propaganda celebrating transgendered children."

The puck continues, "Propaganda pushing the celebration of gender-confused boys wanting to dress and act like girls is a growing trend, seeping into mainstream culture."

LADY GAGA is dead-on when she sings, "Maybe I was born this way . . . "

[...]

I posted a copy of a Fox News story about it on Facebook with the question, "Would you let your little boy wear pink nail polish?" You can probably guess the kind of negative responses that sparked. Most were immediate and unequivocable, because the topic of what's gender appropriate for males is a sensitive one.

Heck, a lot of men won't wear a pink dress shirt let alone allow their sons to experiment with their mother's fingernail polish.

It's so much easier being female. For men, the smallest bit of deviation from the norm and they become suspect and possible prey for schoolyard bullies.

Adam Lambert Sounds Off On Critics Calling J. Crew Layout Transgender Promotion

Rocker Adam Lambert has defended a J. Crew layout that features a young boy with painted toenails.

[...]

Lambert, who isn't averse to wearing makeup and nail polish, blasted the critics.

"Gender confusion?" he tweeted to his nearly 1 million followers. "I don't think it's that deep – children should have full freedom of expression. It's everyone else who's confused."

"If society didn't work so hard to reinforce gender role stereotypes we would have a much more well-adjusted & open-minded future generation," he added.

I'll have to hand it to ABC and their transgender coverage.   :icon_clap:  Nice report on the FOX foul-up.  The other transgender report videos in the queue aren't bad themselves.

In Praise of Pink Polish
By LISA BELKIN

http://parenting.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/14/in-praise-of-pink-polish/

My inbox makes it clear that you want a chance to discuss boys and pink nail polish, aka "How a Photo of a Mom Spending Time with Her Son Fed the Culture Wars."

[...]

Other voices rose up too, praising J. Crew for blasting through gender stereotypes, and chastising Dr. Ablow and Ms. Brown. Change.org created an online petition to "Thank J. Crew for its heartwarming" ad, and last I checked it had over 7,500 electronic signatures.

And Jon Stewart offered up his own summary last night.

The Daily Show Takes on J. Crew Transgender Fox-traversy
Filed by: Alex Blaze
April 15, 2011 8:30 AM

http://www.bilerico.com/2011/04/the_daily_show_takes_on_j_crew_transgender_fox-tra.php

The Daily Show mocks the fake controversy around the J. Crew ad I posted about earlier this week. The original Fox News story I linked said "doctors and parents" were upset about the J. Crew ad, which was disingenuous because the only "doctor" Fox quoted was on their payroll and the only "parent" they quoted worked for a rightwing org.

Jon Stewart provides the clips to show how that went from Fox to the other networks because our supposedly liberal media is, in fact, quite stupid.
