We am home from our "telling trip" to St Louis, MO Raleigh, NC and Jacksonville, FL when we told all of our six adult kids (ages 31-41) that I was transgender.
Judy and I spent over an hour with my two daughters and their husbands in St Louis explaining what I had been through and will be going through as I start living full-time as Jamie, and they were less than supportive, to put it mildly.
The total comments/questions during the whole conversation from them were:
- We thought you were gay.
- When are you getting it cut off?
- So you'll be lesbians then?
- The girls have been so upset when they see you with painted toenails, ear rings (diamond studs or tiny hoops) and then the long hair too. (really? they always ask when can we all go get mani/pedi's together)
- That may be alright in Las Vegas where everything goes, but I am not going to traumatize my kids (11, 8, 6, 3) by exposing them to that. My other daughter said that goes for her child too (5 month old).
We then went on to Raleigh and Jacksonville where we told the other four (and their significant others), all who were accepting and caring, so at least the trip ended well.
