Hey guys,

So I wasn't sure where to begin with messaging.  I was googling stuff this evening and found this forum, so it wouldn't let me get very far without joining.

I have been on T now for almost 3 months and noticed no changes.  I am in grad school, so I have like a select 10 people that I see maybe twice a week and the rest of my time is spent alone, staring at a computer, pretending to do research.  I have really struggled to find community/friends where I live.

I'm wondering how others navigate the dating scene?  I am really interested in dating another FTM or a bio guy.  The community is small here, and everyone seems to know everyone.  I have no idea how to get around this.

Hey Andy, welcome to the site.  Unfortunately, as I'm pre-t and avoiding dating at the moment, I'm not much help in that area, but there are a lot of guys on here who have happy, successful relationships.  Have you checked to see if your area has a trans or even LGBT group?  If it's a small community, that may not help with meeting new people, but it can still be nice to have a consistent group of people to talk with.

Thank you for the responses!

I am actually from a rather large city, but the trans group is some what clique-ish.

I just attended the actual meeting this weekend, and met some great guys.  Unfortunately the meeting is once a month.

I feel like I have so many questions and things to figure out that I am afraid to bombard people with all of them.  I am seeing a therapist because I am working on the chest surgery letter.. but she hasn't been too much support for me.

Hi Andy, just wanted to say welcome to the site.  I really can't tell you much about dating since I have been in a long term relationship for many years.  Even if I wasn't, I would not be dating until I was on T for a bit because I very much hate being thought of or called a Lesbian.  Nothing against people that are, I just know I am not one.

Good luck with the dating and hope you can find some folks locally in addition to here to help with your questions.

Hi Andy from another Andy! And welcome!

As far as dating, someone put something helpful on awhile back about using Craiglist to find FTMs or bio guys who are open to FTMs. You go to your city or area you are interested in, then in the little search box on the left, put FTM and click "personals" down below. This brings up all the posts that have anything to do with FTMs. I checked this out, out of curiosity, and was happily rewarded with all sorts of personals: FTMs looking for each other, gay and straight bio guys open to FTMs, you name it!

(You will also find ads from dykes who are saying "NO FTMs," but we don't need to go there!  :o)

Good luck and enjoy Susan's!

Wow, you must live in some awesome place :).  I actually tried that with both DC and Baltimore area (you'd think they'd have a lot) but no luck.  Found one or two.  I don't think that those areas are big on craigslist personals though.

There are some trans dating sites, but I'm not sure how well they work.

meh

I really like okcupid (only had one ->-bleeped-<- message me, he was listed as straight too so I'm not sure how he found me since my profile is listed as gay male. I did mention in my profile I was ftm). I've since taken my profile down until I'm on T for awhile and until I find a job.

Craiglist seems like just a hookup thing to me.

Other than that I'm not really sure. I can't drink so I don't like bars, don't go to clubs b/c I don't like dancing. I met my last boyfriend in an online game lol. He moved in with me and we lived together for 4 years then I transitioned and now I'm single. :*(
