These great men and women have been asserting their strength and their presence in athletics for generations. The story of gold medallist sprinter Stella Walsh is just one which has defied expectations and catapulted changes to the sporting world.

In the 1932 Olympics, Polish-American runner Stella Walsh sprinted her way to the gold in the 100-meter dash.

In 1980 Walsh was a bystander in an armed robbery in Cleveland, Ohio and was killed by a stray bullet at the age of 69. In her autopsy it was discovered that she actually possessed male genitalia. A detailed investigation followed which revealed that she had both male and female chromosomes, which is a condition known as mosaicism. Walsh had lived her entire life as a woman and many earlier documents, including her birth record, state that she was in fact a woman.

Being a mosaic is also called chimerism. This is what I am. It happens when you have a twin die in the womb and their chromosomes are absorbed.

I firmly beleive that transsexual athletes are completely valid - it is so much harder to compete on estrogen, it is unreal.

Bri,
I would have to agree with you completely, as I have no where the strength that I had before. I found this out after the first year on estrogen. I use to be able to pick up a 100 lbs with no problem at all. Was doing it all the time, I worked in the meat industry and 150 was the rule of the day to pick up one after another. After a year I had retired and we went to get some stones for a path in our back yard. They were 80 lb stones, I thought no problem. Well, I couldn't even budge them. Then this cute young guy, ooooh he had a body on him and he was young and without shirt, hmmmm. Asked if he could help us ladies out. I said yes, I need 10 and he put those 10 in the back of my truck and I was greatful in more ways than you can believe. Well, back to the games, I do believe that TS's can and would be very competitive to a GG in any event.
