A Transsexual on All My Children . . .

I'm not sure if any one has posted about this, but it just came to my attention that on the soap show 'All My Children' a new character has been added , and he has fallen in love with Bianca, who is a lesbian. On their first date, he shows up dressed as a woman and tells her that he's felt like a woman trapped in a man's body and that he's also a lesbian.

Now the writers of this show are trying to keep up to date with what's going on in the world, and of course they're trying to show how bizarre this is.

Now being that I am part of the transgendered community, I don't see anything bizarre in this, aside from announcing that he's a lesbian as well just to fit more in with what Bianca is.

Any comments . . .

I caught an episode on tuesday, when Zoe came out to Bianca.... and told her life story... and she had me in tears. It was beautifully done.

Zoe says wonderful things, much of which I really, REALLY relate to, all about destiny and how this thing is really a *spiritual* quest for her. It's just ashame her (male facade) character seems so shallow and eccentric at times - though I guess that's the point in a way. But I would have been happier if they'd used a more ordinary, everyday character to show that this ISN'T an odd thing afflicting only already eccentric people.

Well, since you kitties are all caught up with the recent events in the lives of Zarf and Bianca, I thought I'd post a little video from The View where the girls interview Jeffrey Carlson (a.k.a. Zarf].  He does look very androgynous, honestly I don't think he'd have any problems with "passing" if he were to transition in real life.

My source  that told me about what was happening on All My Children, commented about Zarf, and the fact that if he were thinner and had more feminine features that he would be more passable. Unfortunately my source is stereotyping  the transsexuals, but one thing that I had brought to my sources attention and that is that you really can't mix the transgender community with the homosexual community, and of course her reply to me on that was; "Then how do I explian having sex with men?"  So I simply explained to her that since I see myself as a woman, I don't find anything wrong with having sex with a a man. Now if I were to have sex with another woman, then I may feel uncomfortable.

Don't forget ladies this is s TV program ! It will never be too realistic, but Zarf did bring al lot of things up I could also relate too, like when your born a girl you automatically get dolls for gifts, and when your born a boy you automatically get trucks.
I remember when I was a kid I was always playing with my sisters dolls, when my father came home I know if I got caught, I'd be in big trouble, so when I heard him coming I'd switch to the trucks.

I know exactly what you mean there Jamie Lee. It's just like blue is for boys and pink is for girls. A few months ago I was wearing blue and pink saphire earrings, and my mom asked me, "Can't I tell what I am?" Very stereotypical. But I'll give credit to the writers of All My Children, for doing there research.

my opinion of Jeff Carlson as a woman is that she's not attractive. That's all I'm saying!! I'm not saying that the storyline is nasty!!
Alexis Arquette makes a nice looking woman (although I think she looks good as a man too!) "she" should have auditioned for this part.

Most of the comments made here, actually bring to mind that movie TRANSAMERICA. It's strange that they'd have a real indian in that film, but getting a real transsexual for the main part would have been just as easy.

It's just like blue is for boys and pink is for girls.

What most people don't realize is that it used to be the other way around.  Pink was considered to represent aggression, since it is nothing more than red mixed with white, and blue was considered to represent calm.  I think this changed sometime after WWII, but I'm not sure why.

That why when we had or kids, we picked nutral cocors for their rooms, I think yellows and greens, and let them make their own choices when we repainted.

Right-wing Elizabeth Hasslebeck irritates me.

I give this clip an A for effort - but I LOATHE the term transgender. I think it's such a cop out.

He/she could pass - I think a story about straight love would have been more interesting.

Hey Brianna, I'm sorry that you don't like the term 'Transgender'. I use it in general. But anyway, my source has just told me that this transsexual on All My Chldren was a hoax, and apparently the writters were jsut seeing how well it would work to see how well you can take a straightman and try to change him into a woman. Personally, I think that they've failed. As we all know you just can't one day wake up and decide that I'm going to become a woman and that's it. I have found through my own personal experience that it's a long journey through childhood until we reach a time were we can start to make the necessary changes.

Since my wife informed me of this I have been following it as loyal as possible. Sure Zarf was eccentric but remember one thing we all should know.  Before we started our journey we tried to pass as our birth gender and whether you realize it or not  usually we learn to be that gender by watching those around us and mimicking them since we have no real knowlege on how to act. Thus Zarf was being eccentric because Zarf learnt to be male from males 'he' was around. I know I am IS but from my readings I believe TS' are the same here- being their proper gender is natural while being their birth gender has to be learnt. I find Zoe's struggles and fears rather realistic. Just my opinion

I just started watching this last night, it's on right now on Soapnet on cable, they just had a dialogue about transgendered people wanting to be refered to bv the proper pronouns. Pretty incredible for a soap, actually.

Later dialogue discussed the difference between gender identitiy and sexual orientation.

BTW All My Children runs like every four hours on Soapnet.

The guy who plays Zoe would be really hot after getting "the works" with Dr O. He has about as masculine a jawline as any I have seen. What would be really cool if he did the ultimate "method actor" technique and actually got FFS. Maybe he could get by without the rhinoplasty, his nose is kinda cute.
