That's supposed to mean "across the island"! I'm moving into my new house today, after a mad 330 mile drive yesterday that took 8 hours longer than planned due to brake failure. But I got to spend all day in a forest while my van got mended, and came away with an hilariously sunburnt nose :).

I'll be doing the same journey (without breakdowns of any sort. I hope) 4 more times in the next 10 days as I get all my stuff and my two vehicles down to Devon, so I'll be fairly absent here until I've finished all that hither-and-yonning.

Meanwhile, it's that day again,so:

I will be watching with great interest as if all goes to plan I will be relocating across Bass Strait , to Tasmania.  Going back to study.  I intend to get rid of a lot of stuff so that i don't have to do too many ferry trips.  Getting the dog over there will be an interesting exercise.  Do you have pets?
Bon Voyage, Karen.

No pets, Karen, but a household-worth of stuff, including 23 archive boxes of books - this has to get trimmed down, I spent 4 hours yesterday carrying them down and up flights of stairs, enough now! My thighs feel like I was horseriding yesterday :(.

Once all my moving, and getting things I need is done, I'm selling the big van too.

This is my first morning in the new place, going to find a good GP and then collect a loom this afternoon :).

Happy new house. Must be a very special GP to have a loom ::)

Sorry

Congratulations, sounds like you are starting to collect more "stuff" already, has to be a good sign.
I have always found a skip to be better than a van myself!!
Found out that if I take the dog on the car ferry it's only $22 one way (10 quid) and a lot simpler procedure than flying.
Cheers, Karen.

Equal parts frustration and amusement yesterday. The new place I'm renting is supposed to have had a load of work done on it, including putting in a fire escape - but that isn't done yet because they're still waiting for planning permission from the same council that told them they had to put in the fire escape! So I went and got this lovely loom yesterday, a 3-hour round trip to the village of West Camel, only to have it sit tantalisingly in my downstairs corridor, as the side frames are just too big to go round the dogleg stairwell, as I'd guessed they would be. Meanwhile, I'm stuck using an awkward folding loom until the fire escape door gets put in. And my sofa bed will probably not get in the house either for the same reason, so it'll have to stay in my van (getting damp) until the fire escape is sorted.

As for the GP, none of the local ones have specific trans experience, so I'm just going to have to pick the one I most like the look of in their photos! And I can't register until I have proof of new address, which could take a little while.

But hey, I live by the seaside now! :). People are friendly around here - I had a nice welcome in the Chinese restaurant up the road, from a cute local gal dressed in faux oriental outfit :).
